We’ve listened to your feedback and took this exact problem to heart at Webgate.io, developing a brand-new feature that will significantly speed up your work: The Multiline View in playlists.

What's New?
The classic Timeline View used to be the standard. It’s perfect for seeing the chronological sequence of your clips and for arranging your playlist. However, it can get cluttered with many clips, since all the shots are laid out in a single row.

With the new Multiline View, we're changing that fundamentally. Instead of presenting your clips in a long line, they are fanned out and arranged one below the other.

The result? With a single glance, you can see the thumbnails of every single clip in the playlist.

The Benefits at a Glance

• Full Overview: Immediately, you can see all the footage from a shooting day. Which scenes were shot, and what didn't you get to? You immediately have a visual overview of all the content.
• Blazing-fast navigation: You no longer have to scroll to find the right clip. A quick glance is all it takes to see where the shot you're looking for is, and you can jump right to it.
• Maximum efficiency: Finding the right clip, whether for a presentation, Video Feedback, or download, is done in seconds. This saves valuable time and frustration.

How to Activate the New Layout
It’s very simple: Once you've opened a playlist, you'll find the new Multiline icon below the thumbnails. Just click it to switch the view and activate the new overview. You can switch back and forth between the two layouts at any time, depending on what best suits your current task. Webate.io hereby remembers the latest setting for your upcoming playlist view.

Introducing... The new Webgate Play-View (Beta) is here – a streamer-style interface for all your videos. Visually appealing, easy to use, and free from folder trees. Filter clips, find scenes, stay on top of your footage – Now available via the top navigation bar!

Play-View: A new way to experience your clips

We’re making it even easier to review dailies and videos. Often, users watch videos exclusively within a specific room and therefore don’t need a traditional tree structure with project name and subfolders. That’s exactly who the new Play View is for: less technical, but far more intuitive.

In the beta version, you can now explore what Webgate feels like when the classic sidebar disappears. Instead, you’ll find a clear and streamlined layout with:

• Playlists arranged horizontally


• Grouped by rooms, e.g. Dailies playlists on top, Editorial playlists below

Seamlessly switch from playlists to clips

The Play-View also introduces a real powerful new feature that helps you browse and spot content in your footage more easily: the Clips View.

In this view, playlist borders disappear and you’ll see all video thumbnails in a given room directly next to and below each other. Hovering over a clip reveals additional info like scene and take, and a single click opens the video in the preview player.

The benefit is obvious: you get a visual overview of all recorded shots in your project. Looking for that one scene – say, «the taxi ride to the airport» – but don’t remember the shoot day or scene number? The Clips View gets you there quickly and visually.

Who hasn’t experienced this in post-production? There’s a new version of a video, and the question arises: What exactly has changed? Which effects and which comp work better? Which color correction hits the right tone? In short – which version is more convincing?

With the new Side-by-Side View, Webgate.io now offers a smart way to play videos side by side in sync and compare them at a glance – without complicated workarounds, version numbers, or extra tools.

This is how it works:

• Quick Start:
  Activate Side-by-Side Playback easily via right-click on a clip thumbnail in the playlist or directly through the side-by-side icon in the player overlay.
• Synchronized Comparison:
  Both clips play in perfect sync – during play, pause, scrubbing, fast forward, slow motion, and even frame-by-frame.
• Full Control:
  Use the A and B buttons in the video overlay (Shortcut: v for A and b for B) to instantly switch between the two clips for focused feedback.
• Clearly Marked:
  Color-coded markers and letters in the timeline indicate which clips are being compared – so you never lose track.

What's really in the file?

Not everything is visible at first glance – especially when it comes to the technical DNA of a video. With our new MediaInfo integration, you can now access all relevant metadata for a clip directly inside Webgate.io. No need to download. No need to switch apps.

A selection of what you can check instantly:

• Video Settings: Colorspace, Chroma Subsampling, Resolution - Get clarity on how your clip is encoded.
• Audio Channels: Stereo or multi channel mono? How many tracks, what sample rate?
• Codec & Container: H.264, ProRes, DNxHD – or something more exotic? MediaInfo knows.
• Export Software: Find out if the file came from DaVinci, Premiere, Transkoder or others.

How it works:

Just select a clip in any playlist, click on the Metadata tab in the player sidebar, and you’ll find a new MediaInfo section with all available details – instantly and without ever leaving Webgate.io.

Why it matters?

Because time is precious – and production teams shouldn’t have to play detective just to check if a file was delivered in stereo or surround, in the right color space, or with the correct export settings.

Sometimes you need more than a neutral preview – especially when evaluating whether shadows retain detail or highlights are clipping. With Webgate.io, you can now quickly adjust brightness, contrast, and saturation directly in the player preview. Fast. Non-destructive. Helpful.

Perfect for VFX Approvals and for reviewing Dailies and Color Gradings

• Quick fine-tuning: Adjust brightness, contrast, or saturation live in the player – great for quick assessments.


• Non-destructive: Your original remains untouched. Adjustments only affect the preview.


• Clip-safe: Adjustments reset automatically when switching clips to avoid confusion.


• Side-by-side ready: Changes apply to both clips in the side-by-side mode (Spoiler 😉).

How it works:

Open the burger menu in the player and adjust the sliders. Once you’ve reviewed the image, reset with a click or by changing the clip.

This new way of adjusting the image is not to be confused with color grading – but it helps you make faster, well-founded decisions when critically reviewing videos .

We're excited to introduce a brand-new feature designed to save you time and optimize your workflow: From now on, an integrated AI will automatically generate precise, frame-accurate subtitles for every video uploaded to Webgate.io.

How does it work?

As soon as you upload a new video, our AI automatically extracts the audio channels from the video file and creates a transcript file perfectly synchronized to your video's timecodes.

Important: The AI runs locally on our own servers—no data is shared with external providers.

Full control over subtitles

• Easy management: If you'd like subtitles to appear automatically, simply enable this setting in the subtitle's preferences. By default, they are hidden; if you want to prevent them from being available, you can delete them entirely.
• Available at any time The automatically generated subtitles are initially turned off during playback but can be activated at any time.
• Customizable: Automatically generated subtitles can be downloaded, edited, and re-uploaded.
• Manual SRT uploads: Of course, you can still upload your own SRT files and set them as your default subtitles.

Automatic playback with subtitles

When you enable subtitles for a video, they'll stay activated when switching to the next one—ideal for reviews or presentations.

Background rendering without disruptions

Subtitle rendering by our AI happens asynchronously in the background, ensuring no impact on your video rendering or platform performance. Check the current subtitle rendering status conveniently via the subtitle sidebar in the player.

Retroactive availability

Automatic AI-Generated Subt...

Hello Webgate.io Community,

We’ve added a new feature that can save you time and extra steps: You can now set in- and out-points directly in a video on Webgate.io and create a new clip from it.

This feature, called trimming, allows you to extract specific scenes from an existing video file – without switching to an external editing system.

How does it work?

Open the playlist containing the video and simply set an in-point and an out-point in the player. For fine-tuning, you can move both points freely using drag & drop to precisely define your selection.

Once you're happy with the selection, click the scissors icon to create the new clip. The trimmed version is saved as a separate file in the file system next to the playlist. It is immediately ready to use – for example, in a new streaming playlist that you can share with external parties as a Directlink.

A typical use case

You want to share only the scenes of a specific actor from a feature film with an agency?

Previously, that meant: Writing out timecodes, downloading the video, importing it into an editing system, trimming, rendering, and re-uploading.
Not only time-consuming – but also error-prone and full of back-and-forth communication.

Now it all happens right on the platform: Fast. Reliable. Reproducible.

Technical details

• Quality: Clips are exported at higher quality than standard streaming files.
• Format: H.264 video, audio layout same as source
• Bitrate: 15 Mbit/s with variable bitrate
• Resolution: identical to the source file
• Timecode: extracted from the source file

Trimming is another step towards making Webgate.io your central platform for efficient post-production – right in the browser, without switching tools.

Hello Webgate.io Community,

We’re excited to introduce a new beta feature that makes video playback even more convenient: Webgate.io now supports besides Apple AirPlay also Google Chromecast! This allows you to stream your videos directly from your browser to your TV – no cables, no hassle.

How it works

• Click the Chromecast icon in the Webgate player to select a compatible TV device from your network.
• The video is streamed directly via Chromecast – this works smoothly, for example, in the Chrome browser.
• Many modern TVs already have Chromecast built in, especially those running Android TV.

Smarter playback

• You can control playback directly with your TV remote – play, pause, and skip all work as expected.
• When a clip ends, the next one plays automatically.
• If you select a different clip in Webgate, the TV updates and plays the new video.

Perfect for screenings

Whether you're at a client’s office, in the edit suite, or simply on your couch – Chromecast lets you bring Webgate videos to the big screen with ease. It’s a smoother, more professional viewing experience.
